Essential Shopping for Your New Puppy: A Guide for Pawrents

a man shopping at a pet store

You might be feeling anxious about your new family member. Many new puppy owners go shopping for a bunch of things they don't need and their puppy doesn't like. Don’t worry we have your back. I have a list of care items that will help you in your journey as new pawrents.

  • One of the most important things you can get is a crate. It teaches your little one to hold their bladder and keeps them safe when you are not able to watch them at all times. A 36’ or 42’ crate is ideal for a Shasta Royal Monroe pup. Here is an example. If you like fancy, check out this one from Wayfair.

  • Puppies can be messy. This is why we use small soft blankets in our crates. They are easy to wash and easy to have on hand. Your Shasta Royal Monroe pup will come with one but it won’t be long before you have to wash it and will need one while you wait. Check these out!

  • Shopping for grooming supplies is important if you want to keep your Australian Labradoodle happy and healthy.

    • Wire Brush Buy it here!

    • Slicker Brush- You can use a regular “Wet Brush” or a pet slicker brush. Buy it here!

    • Metal Comb Buy it here!

    • Shampoo- Any will do the job, but we would like to share with you what we use. It smells so good! Buy it here!

    • Cream Rinse- Experienced Australian Labradoodle puppy pawrents know all about how important it is to use conditioner on your pup. This one works very well but it doesn’t smell as good as others. Buy it here!

    • Dematting Spray- Have this on hand for if your Australian labradoodle gets tangles. Buy it here!

    • This one is not for the faint at heart… It took us a while to warm up to the idea of trimming our own pup’s face and paws. Your Shasta Royal Monroe pup will have experience with this from the socialization they got with us. Here is a how to video. Here is a great set of scissors to help you get started. Buy it here!

  • Now for the fun part! TOYS!! Here is for all the pet parents out there who ask me. Can you recommend a toy that my pup can’t destroy? LOL! It will get better, I promise. In the mean time, here is a list!

    • Balls!

    • Tug toy!! Use under 5 months of age.

    • Heartbeat stuffed animal is great for the first few nights without littermates. It might give you a few more winks of sleep. Buy it here!
